Dam Buster Sightseeing Flight

A sightseeing flight with a difference over a monumental piece of British history.

Dam Buster Sightseeing Flight

Description

In March 1943, the Lancaster crews of 617 Squadron began training for a top secret mission. Based at Scampton in Lincolnshire, the Squadron’s training was conducted along the Derwent Valley in the Derbyshire countryside west of Sheffield. The mission was the famous “Dam Buster” raid on Ruhr Valley in Germany.

This helicopter pleasure flight takes off from Sheffield City Airport, heading north before turning in west to Derbyshire Peak District. Here you pick up the training route of 617 Squadron’s Lancaster bombers as they rehearsed for the Dam Buster raid.

You will fly over Howden Dam, the Derwent Dam through to Lady Bower and then circle the dams to make sure you will have a good view of the dams and the surrounding countryside, before returning to Sheffield. The flight takes approximately 30 minutes.
